비가 오는데 수목원을 돌아 댕겼다면 미쳤다고 흉 볼라나? ㅎ
이 녀석은 일본 원산으로 정원에 관상용으로 많이 식재한다. 같은 진달래과인 산앵도나무, 들쭉나무, 월귤처럼 항아리 모양의 꽃이 귀엽다.
넷상의 정보를 보면 최근 지리산 활엽수림 계곡부에서 발견되었다고 하는데 그 등대꽃(단풍철쭉)은 국생종 사진 자료를 보면 다른 종이다.
잎은 어긋나고 길이 2~4cm, 폭 1~2cm인 도란형인데 예두이다. 높이 2~5m정도이다.
가을에 잎이 단풍처럼 붉게 물이 든다고 단풍철쭉이라 이름 붙었단다.
