흰참꽃(진달래과 진달래속) 열매 Rhododendron sohayakiense var. koreanum

높은산 능선부 암릉지대에 나타나는 이 녀석은 흰색의 아주 작을 꽃을 피운다.

오래 전 가야산에서 열매를 담은 적이 있었지만 갑자기 나타난 이 녀석이 긴가민가하였다.

 

우리나라에서는 지리산, 덕유산, 가야산 등에 드물게 자란다. 

가지가 많이 갈라지고 햇가지에는 갈색 털이 있다. 

잎은 어긋나는데 가지 끝에서는 모여 달린다. 잎몸은 타원형, 도란형, 또는 난상 피침형이고 갈색털로 덮여 있다. 

 

이 녀석은 전체에 긴 털이 밀생하며, 잎이 작고 꽃이 백색이며 수술이 5개인데 꽃잎보다 길므로 유사종과 구별된다

 

겨울눈도 다 잡혀 있다.

어린가지에도 털이 보인다. 짧은 가지 끝에 잎이 밀집되어 있다
