지리산 정모를 일찍 마치고 돌아오는 길에 흰참꽃을 볼 수 있다는 말에 잔뜩 기대를 했다.
아직도 흰참꽃을 본 적이 없기 때문이다.
1000고지가 넘는 뾰족한 산 정상 부근이라 흰참꽃나무가 서식하는 모양이다
가야산 높은 곳까지 오르지 않고도 이 산 정상까지 차를 타고 오를 수 있어서 산을 오르기 힘든 내게는 안성맞춤인 셈인데
길이 좁아서 승용차가 교행하기 쉽지 않은 길도 만만치는 않다.
교목들 아래 자리잡은 관목이라 볕을 잘 보지 못해서 그런지 꽃차례가 풍성하지 않고
몇 그루 되지 않은 녀석들 중에 꽃을 피우지 못한 녀석도 보인다
이미 지고 있는 분위기인데 그래도 이렇게 자잘한 흰꽃을 피워주어서 얼마나 고맙던지
늦은 시각이라 빛이 없을까 걱정했더니만 오후늦게 갠 하늘 덕분에 산 정상에는 햇살이 비친다
꽃이 자잘하고 작지만 잎도 무척 작다.
털진달래처럼 잎 양면과 꽃받침에 누운 털이 밀생하였는데 화관 안쪽에도 털이 많았다.
에구~! 인자 깜빡거리는 낙엽줄이라...지리산 정모에 허둥대다가 카메라를 가져가지 못하였다.
수 년 전에 한 번 그리고 이번이 두번째다. 전장에 나가면서 총을 두고 간 거나 마찬가지다.
함께 동행한 꽃동무 카메라를 빌리고 메모리도 빌려서 하루 종일 해결을 했는데 익숙하지 않은 카메라를 들고 담았으니.....
꽃은 5월에 피고 지름 7-8mm로서 백색이며 깔때기 모양이고 가지 끝에 2-6개씩 달리며 화경은 길이 3cm로서 백색털이 있다.
꽃받침은 4개로 갈라지고 침상의 백색 털이 있으며 꽃잎은 4-5개로 갈라지고 통부보다 짧으며 통부는 길이 2-3mm로서 안쪽에 털이 있다.
4개의 수술중에서 2개는 길고 수술대는 중앙이하에 털이 있으며 꽃밥은 자주색이고 암술대는 수술과 길이가 같으며 털이 없다.
자방은 난형이고 갈색털이 있다.
잎은 호생하지만 가지 끝에서는 총생하며 타원형, 도란형, 또는 난상 피침형이고 양끝이 좁으며 길이 5-30mm, 폭 4-12mm로서
가장자리에 톱니가 없고 표면에 복모가 있으며 뒷면은 복모와 더불어 연모가 있다. 잎이 가을에 황적색으로 변한다.
잎 양면에는 누운털이 밀생하고 어린 가지에도 갈색 털이 있다
