섬진달래(진달래과 진달래속) Rhododendron keiskei var. hypoglaucum Sutô & T. Suzuki

작년 가을 이 녀석을 찾아 본다고 5명이 섬을 탐사하다가 결국 찾지 못하고 개고생했던 기억이 새롭다

관목이 꽉 우거진 섬은 우리의 발걸음을 허락하지 않는 듯 네발로 기어다니게 하였다.

 

김밥 한줄과 물 한통으로 7시간의 탐사에 모두 기진맥진했던 곳이라

올해 탐사 동행 제의에도 갈까 말까 망설이다가 결국 동행하기로 하였다.

 

이태만에 반갑게 찾은 섬진달래

헌데............이미 꽃잔치는 끝나 버렸다.

 

 

남도의 무인도 암벽지대에 자라는 상록성 활엽 떨기나무로 높이 30~50cm로 자란다. 

 

잎은 타원형 내지 장타원형이며, 잎끝은 둔하거나 약간 뾰족하고, 잎 밑은 둔하다.

 

식물 전체가 비늘털로 덮여 있다.

 

바위틈에 숨어 있던 녀석 겨우 찾은 꽃

이 녀석도 벌써 이별의 이유를 찾고 있었다.

 

꽃부리는 깔때기 모양, 길이 2.5cm, 너비 3cm이며 노란색을 띤 옅은 흰색인데, 드물게는 바깥쪽에 비듬 모양의 비늘털로 덮여 있다.
