소백산, 지리산 철쭉제를 하는 주인공이 바로 이 붉은 산철쭉이다.
그래서 <철쭉제> 가 아니라 <산철쭉제> 라 칭하는 게 맞다고 그랬다. 뭐 그 이름 붙이는 거야 지자체에서 고칠 일이고.
어릴 적 우리들은 진달래를 참꽃이라 불렀고 이 산철쭉을 진달래라 부르면서 진달래는 먹으면 죽는다고 했었다.
화경(꽃대)에 털이 있고 가지끝에 2~3송이가 달리며 꽃받침은 5개로 갈라지고 갈색털이 있다.
꽃잎 내측에는 진홍색의 반점이 있다. 수술은 10개이며 수술대는 털이 없거나 기부에 복모가 있다.
화경 및 꽃받침에 끈적끈적한 액이 있다. 벌써 염세적인 파리 한 마리가 끈적이에 붙어서 세상을 하직 하였다. ㅎ
이눔 산철쭉은 산에서 피지 않고 석포 개천가에도 피고 있다. 이젠 이름을 도랑철쭉이라고도 불러야 되지 않을까 ㅎㅎ
잎 표면에 털이 드문드문 있고 뒷면 특히 맥 위에 갈색털이 밀생하며 엽병은 길이 1-5mm로서 갈색털이 많다.
어린 순의 인편에는 끈끈한 점액이 있다. 엽병과 잎가에는 양면에 모두 갈색의 잔털이 있다.
