이 곳에 나한송을 봤던 기억이 있어서 이른 아침 제주의 동쪽으로 차를 몰았다.
해안 지역이라서 겨울 바람이 꽤 거세게 부는데도 오가는 사람들이 제법 붐빈다.
수목원에서도 이 녀석이 있을 법한데 어느 구석에 심겨져 있는지 찾지 못하였었다.
암수딴그루인 이 녀석은 5월 쯤 꽃이 피어서 가을에 익는다고 하는데 이 녀석은 제주도에서 드물게 자생하고 있다.
늦었지만 그래도 열매를 볼 수 있지 않을까 하여 헛걸음을 각오하고 왔더니 녀석은 친절하게도 열매 몇 알을 달고서 반겨준다.
5월에 꽃을 볼 수 있을까? 관광철 뱅기표 구하기가 만만치 않을텐데.....
열매 모양이 눈사람 형상을 하고 있는데 끝부분의 백분을 덮어 쓰고 있는 동그란 부분이 열매이고 아래쪽 타원형은 과탁이다.
이 과탁이 가을에 붉게 익어서 시선을 끌고 종자는 넓은 타원형이고 청록색으로서 백분으로 덮여 있다.
대부분의 열매가 떨어지고 쭈그러진 과탁만 말라 있었는데
이렇게 쭈글쭈글한 상태로 떨어지지 못하고 있는 녀석도 있었다
그 중에 아직 싱싱한 열매를 챙겼는데 길다란 꼬리가 뭘까 궁금하였다.
과탁과 열매 사이에 길다란 꼬리 같은 게 보이길래 참 생김새도 이상하다 했더니
길다란 꼬리도 열매의 일부분인가 싶어서 열매 원본을 확인해 보니까
이 녀석 떨어질 때에 떨어지지 못하고 나무에 달린 채 씩이나고 있는 중이었다. ㅎㅎ...참 웃기는 짜장이다.
과탁만 남아 있는 녀석.
5월을 기다리고 있는 수구화수 꽃눈이다
잎은 호생하고 넓은 선형 또는 선상피침형이며 길이 4-8cm, 나비 5-9mm로서
양끝이 좁고 밑부분이 짧은 엽병으로 되면 표면은 짙은 녹색, 뒷면은 누른빛이 돌고 중륵이 양쪽으로 도드라진다.
