후박나무(녹나무과)

참식나무 열매 때문에 무턱대고 차를 세웠다.

감귤밭 가장자리 숲을 살피는데 측맥이 뚜렷하지 않은 상록수가 보인다.

 

뭘까? 분명 기억하고 있는 녀석인데 갸웃거려도 떠오르지 않는다.

동백나무 꽃봉오리처럼 여러개의 인편에 싸인 겨울눈이 무척 크다.

 

그냥 몇 장 담고 까치밥으로 남겨 놓은 귤 여나믄 개를 따서 주머니에 넣었다. 까치밥 슬쩍하는 정도야 뭐라하지 않겠지?

이튿날 걸매생태공원에서 이 녀석을 다시 보고서야 후박나무라는 게 떠올랐다. 물론 나무 앞에 세워놓은 팻말로 확인사살까지 하였다.

 

 

 

간혹 일본목련을 보고 후박나무라고 잘못 부르는 경우를 보는데 후박나무는 이 상록수를 말한다.

끝눈은 타원상이고 많은 인편이 있으며 붉은빛이 돈다. 봄에 나는 새순은 단풍처럼 붉게 물들어 아름답다.

 

 

 

잎은 어긋나기로 가지 끝에 모여서 붙어 있는 것같이 보이며 가장자리는 밋밋하고 톱니가 없으며 양면에 털이 없다.

 

 

 

양성화로, 5월에 새잎이 나올때 털이 없는 원뿔모양 꽃차례가 액생하고 많은 황록색의 양성화가 달리며

꽃차례의 길이 4~7㎝, 꽃자루는 길이 1cm정도이다. 작년 4월에 담은 꽃이다.

 

 

 

열매는 장과로서 이듬해 7~8월 말에 흑자색으로 익으며 지름 1.4cm이며 둥글고 열매 자루는 붉은색이다

 

 

 

 

 

깃털형의 맥이 9쌍이 있고 질이 두꺼우며 거꿀달걀상 타원형이고 길이 7~15cm, 나비 3~7cm로서 꼬리처럼 길어진 점첨두의 끝이 둥글며 밑부분이 예저이고 표면은 녹색이고, 뒷면은 회녹색이며 잎자루는 길이 2~3cm로서 굵다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

높이 20m, 지름 1m에 달하며 수피는 녹갈색이고 늙은 나무에 있어서는 비늘조각처럼 떨어지고 회백색의 얼룩이 있으며 평활하다.

어린가지는 녹색인데 붉은빛이 돌며 뒤에 타원상의 피목이 생긴다.
