센달나무(녹나무과)

여름에 이쁜 숙녀들이 뽀얀 발을 드러내 놓고 신고 다니는 구두를 촌 아짐은 센달이라고 부른다.

센달나무와 이름이 비슷한 생달나무가 있는데 이 녀석이 생달나무가 아닌 센달나무다.

두 녀석 이름이 왔다리 갔다리 해서는 곤란하다.

 

녹나무과 녀석들은 꽃도 비슷하고 상록의 잎도 비슷해서 기억해 두기에는 헷갈리는 경우가 많지만

이 녀석 센달나무는 잎이 좁고 유난히 길어서 기억하기 쉽다.

 

화서를 달고 있다기에 종종 달려 갔더니만 모두 꽃봉오리 상태라...

겨우 화서 정단부에 피고 있는 한 두송이 찾아서 살살 달래면서 담았다.

센달나무는 제주의 숲에서 심심치 않게 보이기는 하는데 녹나무과 중에서도 녹나무, 새덕이, 생달나무 등의 자생 밀도가 가장 높은 것 같다.

 

 

 

녹나무과가 꽃이 피는 시기라서 몇 녀석 꽃을 기대하였더니 녹나무는 벌써 꽃이 다 져 버렸고

생달나무와 센달나무가 꽃을 피우고 있어서 기분 좋게 자료를 확보하였다.
