생달나무(녹나무과)

녹나무과 뿐 아니라 남쪽의 상록수들은 반질거리는 두터운 잎이 비슷비슷하여 이름을 익히기 참 힘들다.

삼년 정도 그 녀석들을 만나 보면서도 아직 헷갈리는 녀석들이 더러 있다.

이 녀석은 녹나무과 중에서도 열매 자루가 긴 몇 종에 들어 간다.

 

 

 

녹나무과가 다 그런 건 아니지만 뚜렷하게 드러나는 3개의 맥이 특징이다.

잎자루 부근에서 갈라지는 두개의 맥이 주맥과 함께 뚜렷하여 어느 정도 범위를 좁혀준다.

 

잎의 길이 6-15㎝(육계나무는 길이 10-15㎝),넓이 2-5㎝로서 좁은 난형 또는 장타원형이고 끝이 뾰족해지다가 둥글게 끝나며 밑부분은 예저 또는 다소 원저이고 가장자리가 밋밋하며 양면에 털이 없고 표면에 광택이 있다.

 

 

아직 꽃은 보지 못하였는데 작년ㄴ에 열매 자루만 남은 거 보고 입맛만 다시다가 올해 이렇게 열매를 담게 되었다.

그것도 다 떨어지고 몇개 남아 있는 거 겨우 붙잡은 거다. 검은 열매는 길쭉한 타원형이다.

 

 

잎 뒷면은 약간  분백색이다. 잎 밑부분으로부터 3-15mm 올라가서 맥이 3개로 갈라지며 엽병은 길이 8-20㎜로서 털이 없다.

 

 

핵과는 지름 1.2cm이고 타원형이며 자흑색으로 11-12월에 익는다. 과경은 길이 3-5㎝이고 과육은 빨간색이다

 

 

꽃은 양성으로서 6-7월에 피고 연한 황색이며 산형상 취산화서로 액생하고 긴 화경 끝에 달린다.

꽃받침잎의 가장자리에 단모가 있다. (육계나무는 꽃잎 뒷면에 단모가 밀생)

 

 

높이가 15m에 달하고 수피는 흑색이며 소지는 녹색이고 털이 없고 피목이 있다.

고목의 수피는 벗겨지고 그 냄새가 계피와 같다는데 냄새를 맡아 보지는 못하였다.

 한약상들이 계피를 채취한다고 고목의 수피를 벗겨가기 때문에 생달나무는 수난을 많이 당하고 한다.

 

 

열매와 잎을 한 자리에 모아 보았다.

 

 

 

 

녹나무의 수피는 세로로 갈라져서 터지는데 생달나무 수피는 매끈하다.
