새덕이(녹나무과 참식나무속) 암꽃 aciculata (Blume) Koidz.

 제주시 어느 기관 정원에는 흰새덕이란 이름표를 달고 있는 나무가 있다.

동백나무겨우살이가 많이 덮고 있어서 수세가 약하긴 하지만 이렇게 꽃을 풍성하게 피우고 있다.

헌데 그 <흰새덕이>란 이름이 문제이다.

 

아마 암술머리가 하얗게 부각이 되고 수술이 보이지 않으니 흰꽃을 피운다고 해서 흰새덕이란 이름을 붙인 모양인데

지금은 흰새덕이란 이름이 표준식물목록에는 사자리고 새덕이의 이명으로 처리가 되어 있다.

새덕이는 암수딴그루로 이 녀석은 열매가 달리는 암그루이다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

꽃자루가 없는 산형꽃차례에 4~5개씩 붉은꽃이 모여 핀다.

 관찰한 바에 의하면 대부분 5개의 꽃이 뭉쳐서 피는데 가운데의 1개를 중심으로 4개의 꽃이 둘러싸는 형상을 하고 잇다.

 

4개의 붉은 화피편과 흰 암술머리를 가진 1개의 암술이 길게 발달하였고 6개의 헛수술이 있다.

2개의 수술 기부에는 2개씩 선체가 있다고 한다.

 

 

 

암술을 기준으로 하여 살펴 보면 가운데 1개, 그 주변을 4개의 꽃이 둘러싸고 하나의 작은 꽃차례를 만들었다.
