육계나무(녹나무과 녹나무속) Cinnamomum loureiroi Nees

나는 이 녀석의 잎 모양새가 생달나무와 다르다는 의심이 들면서도 생달나무라 정리를 해 두었다.

헌데 어제 저녁 제주의 꽃동무가 이 자료에 댓글을 달았다가 지운 흔적이 있는 것을 보고서야 아차!!! 하였다.

 

지워 버린 탓에 어떤 내용의 댓글인지는 내용을 알 수는 없지만 아마도 생달나무가 아니니 다시 확인 해 보라는 내용이 아닐까 짐작이 된다.

아직 만나본 적은 없지만 제주의 식물에 대한 전문적인 식견이 높은 꽃동무기 때문이다

 

처음에 의심했던 대로 생달나무가 아니라 아마도 이 녀석 내가 아직 만나보지 못한 육계나무가 아닐까 하는 생각이 들었다.

생달나무 잎은 이렇게 길게 뾰족하지 않고 잎가장자리에 약간의 구불거림이 있어서 이 녀석 잎을 보고 한참 갸웃거리긴 했었다.

수피를 담아 오지는 않았지만 현장에서 봤을 때 생달나무처럼 매끈하지 않고 약간 갈라진 모양이었는데

그렇다고 녹나무 만큼은 깊게 갈라진 모양은 아니어서 이상타 하긴 했더랬다

 

헌데 육계나무를 접해 보지 못한 나는 생달나무 생태형 잎으로 다양하게도 나오는 가 보다 하고 그냥 간과해 보리고 말았던 것이다

한국의나무 수목 도감의 생달나무 잎 사진이 육계나무 잎을 잘못 실어 놓은 건데 내가 그걸 또 깜빡해 버렸던 탓도 있다.

에구~~!! 쫌 이상하면 다시 잘 살펴 봤어야 하는 건데.....

 

해서 이 녀석을 다시 면밀하게 살펴 본 결과 잎꼬리가 길게 뾰족하고 측맥이 갈라진 위치,

매끈하지 않고 터덕터덕 했던 수피 등을 좁합해 볼 때 육계나무가 맞다는 결론에 이르렀다.

 

중국 원산인 육계나무는 자생하지 않고 조경용으로 식재를 하는데 이 녀석은 자생이 아니라 공원에 심겨져 있었던 녀석이니 분명하다

잠시 오류가 있었지만 암튼 이로써 녹나무과 육계나무 한 종이 추가 되었다

 

 

 

생달나무보다 꽃차례가 더 짧다고 한다

 

 

열매는 생달나무와 거의 흡사하여 구분이 어렵지만 잎은 좁고 길게 뽀족하고 많이 빳빳하였다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

잎 모양이 이렇게 차이가 있는데 말이다. 으~~~~~!!

생달나무 : 잎 폭이 좁고 가장자리의 물결성. 산형화서, 열매 긴타원형, 생달나무 잎 측맥이 엽저에서 약간 떨어진 자리에서 갈라진다

육계나무 : 엽질이 두껍고 잎이 좁고 길게 뾰족하다  측맥이 잎자루 가까이에서 갈라진다. 잎 뒷면이 분백색, 누운 털 있다

 

육계나무 종자 양쪽 끝이 대칭적으로 뾰족한 편으로 한쪽이 더 넓고 무딘 생달나무와는 차이가 있다
