육박나무(녹나무과 육박나무속) Actinodaphne lancifolia (Blume) Meisn.

곳자왈 숲의 얼룩무늬 수피가 유난히 눈에 띈다. 노각나무 수피와 흡사한 녀석으로 녹나무과 육계나무랑 이름이 비슷하다.

역시 남부지방의 상록성인 육박나무는 수피가 노각나무나 모과나무처럼 얼룩 얼룩 부정형의 무늬가 생겨서 아름답다.

 

 

  

잎은 호생하며 긴 타원형 또는 도란상 피침형이고 길이 7-10cm, 너비 2-4cm로서 윤채가 있고 두꺼운 혁질이다.

밋밋한 잎은 뒷면은 회록색으로서 잔털이 밀생하며 7-10쌍의 우상맥이 있고 엽병은 길이 0.8-1.5cm로서 어릴 때 털이 약간 있다.

소지는 자갈색이며 좁은 피목이 있고 털이 없다

 

 

 녹나무과의 많은 나무들이 그러듯 암수딴그루이며 꽃은 7~8월에 피며 둥근 열매는 다음 해 새꽃이 필 때 쯤 붉게 익는다.

 잎 앞면은 광택이 있고 뒷면은 회백색으로 잔털이 빽빽이 난다. 어린 가지는 자갈색이며 털이 없다.

 

 

높이가 15m에 달하고 수피는 평활하며 연한 흑자색이고 둥글고 큰 비늘처럼 껍질이 떨어져서

양버즘나무, 모과나무의 수피 같이 되어 꼭 얼룩무늬 해병대 옷 처럼 보인다고 하여 현지에서 해병대나무라고 한다.
