아쉽게도 꽃 피는 시기를 놓쳐서 꽃은 담지 못하였다. 새끼손톱만한 하얀 꽃이 퍽이나 앙징스러운데...

잎은 호생하지만 가지 끝에서는 총생하며 타원형, 도란형, 또는 난상 피침형이고 양끝이 좁으며
길이 5-30mm, 폭 4-12mm로서 가장자리에 톱니가 없고 표면에 복모가 있으며 뒷면은 복모와 더불어 연모가 있다.
잎이 가을에 황적색으로 변한다.
열매는 삭과로서 난형이고 길이 5mm로서 9월에 익는다. 높이가 50cm에 달하고 어린 가지에 갈색털이 있다.

2. 털진달래
잎은 호생하며 긴 타원상 피침형 또는 도피침형이고 첨두 또는 점첨두이며 예저이고
길이 4-7cm, 폭 1.5-2.5cm로서 톱니가 없으며 표면에 인편이 약간 있고 뒷면에 인편이 밀생하며 잎에 털이 있다.
엽병은 길이 6-10mm이다. 높이 2-3m이고 소지는 연한 갈색이며 인편이 있고 털이 있다.

꽃은 잎보다 먼저 피고 가지끝의 측아에서 1개씩 나오지만 2-5개가 모여 달리기도 하며
화관은 벌어진 깔때기 모양이고 지름 3-4.5cm로서 자홍색 또는 연한 홍색이며 겉에 잔털이 있다.
수술은 10개로서 수술대 기부에 털이 있고 암술대가 수술보다 길다. 개화기는 5-6월이다.
