월귤이나 산앵도 꽃을 닮은 이 녀석 꽃을 보고싶어 했지만 제주도 갈 때마다 나무조차도 볼 수가 없었는데
생각지도 않은 완도에서 열매를 담게 되었다.
블루베리보다 더 좋다는 열매는 정금나무와 함께 인기가 있는데 열매가 너무 자잘하여서 소출이 약하다.
검게 익은 열매를 따 먹으니 새콤달콤한 맛이 먹을만 하다.
정금나무는 낙엽수인데 모새나무는 상록수이다.
열매 배꼽에 꼳받침과 꽃이 떨어진 흔적이 꽃모양을 새겨두어서 이쁘다.
열매는 검게 익으며 백분으로 덮혀 있고 먹을 수 있다.
꽃은 밑으로 처지는 길이 2-5cm의 총상화서에 10개 정도 달리며 잔털이 있고 각 꽃마다 숙존하는 피침상의 포가 있다.
잎은 어긋나며 길이 2.5-6.0cm, 폭 1.0-2.5cm인 타원형 또는 긴 타원형으로 두껍고, 끝이 예첨두이며 밑부분은 점차 좁아져서 예저로 된다
뚜렷하지 않은 잔톱니가 불규칙하게 있다.
