팥꽃나무과 녀석들을 모두 만나 봤지만 정작 팥꽃나무를 보지 못한 터라..
올해는 곡 대면해 보리라 작정하고 아직 이른감 있었지만 천리길을 나섰다.
갑작스레 기온이 내려 가고 강원도에는 눈이 내린다는 예보가 있어서 그런지 얇은 자켓은 온몸을 움츠리게 하였다
머리카락을 헤집는 센 해풍도 발걸음 훼방하며 심술을 부렸지만 내 그리움을 막을 수는 없었다.
바다가 내려다 보이는 얕은 산자락에 기껏 크다고 하는 녀석이 무릎 높이 정도로 작았는데
별 특징이 없어서 꽃이 피지 않으면 알아채지도 못할 녀석이었다.
꽃은 잎이 나기 전에 전년지 끝에 연한 자홍색 꽃이 3~7개씩 산형으로 달리며 화경에 털이 있다.
화피는 통형으로서 겉에 누운 털이 있으며 열편은 4개로서 타원형, 난상 원형, 넓은 도심장형 또는 도란형이고
꽃받침통은 길이 10mm로서 겉에 털이 있다.
수술은 화피 열편 입구에 4개, 화피통 중간 부분에 4개가 있고, 자방은 3mm 정도로 짧고 털이 있으며 암술머리가 붉다
장과는 둥글고 백색이며 길이7-8mm로서 투명하고 7월에 연한 자홍색으로 익는다. 자연상태에서는 잘 결실되지 않는다고 한다.
줄기는 자갈색을 띠며 새 가지는 가늘고 털로 덮여 있다.
