첫 봄꽃나들이다. 2월 말 곶자왈은 조용하다.
백서향 몽환적인 향이 봄이 시작되고 있음을 말해 주고 있다.
작년에 열매를 보려고 했는데 발목을 부러뜨리는 바람에 가 보질 못하였다.
이 녀석은 도감에 암수딴그루로 기재되어 있는데 양성화가 아닐까 하는 견해도 있어서 관심을 가지고 있는 모양이다.
해서 꽃 하나를 갈라 보았더니
수술이 8개 보이고 둥근 암술머리가 있는 자방이 들어 있다.
4개의 수술은 자루가 길어서 화관 입구까지 꽃밥이 나와 있고 수술대가 짧은 4개가 그 아래 화관 속에 들어 있다.
팥꽃나무과인 팥꽃나무는 양성화라 하는데 팥꽅나무의 꽃의 구조나 백서향의 꽃의 구조에 다른 점이 없다
그러니 꽃의 구조를 봤을 때 백서향을 암수딴그루로 보기에는 찜찜한 구석이 있다. 양성화로 보는 것이 타당할 듯하다
둥근 암술머리를 가진 자방이 화관기부에 들어 있다.
꽃송이를 몇 개 따서 갈라 봐도 역시 수술과 암술이 있는 자방을 가지고 있다.
장소가 좀 떨어진 곳의 한 그루에서도 꽃을 살펴 보니 역시 같은 구조이다.
가운데 꽃잎이 시든 녀석은 자방이 조금 굵어져 있다. 열매가 달릴 때 쯤 내려갈 기회가 있을랑가 모르겠다.
