백서향(팥꽃나무과)

살곰살곰 남도의 백서향이 얼굴을 드러내고 있다. 이 녀석을 보러 편도 290km 거리를 다녀 왔다.

제주의 백서향보다 잎 폭이 많이 넓고, 꽃송이 수가 4~7개가 대부분인 10개 미만으로

제주의 꽃보다 크기도 작고 송이 수도 빈약하지만 향기는 똑 같았다. 열매가 익을 때 살펴 봐야겠다.

꽃송이 2개를 따서 해부해 보았는데 제주의 녀석처럼 구조가 같은 양성화였다.

 

 4개의 수술이 화관 입구까지 나와 있고 그 안쪽에 수술대가 짧은 수술 4개가 있다.

 

타원형의 자방 끝에 암술머리가 있는데 노랗게 꽃가루가 묻어 있었다.

이 녀석은 자가수정을 하는걸까? 지금 시기에 수정을 시켜 줄만한 벌레는 관찰되지 않았는데...

줄기는 두메닥나무처럼 수피가 평활하고 부드러웠다.

 

어린 개체들이 많이 보여서 흐뭇했는데 이 곳도 많이 알려지면 남채되지 자생지가 파괴되지 않을까 걱정이다.

이 녀석도 삽목이 가능하다고 하니 굳이 캐 가지 않고도 번식을 시키는 방법을 택하면 좋으련만

사람의 욕심이란 한계가 없으니....
