당느릅나무(느릅나무과 느릅나무속) Ulmus davidiana Planch. ex DC.

"그게 뭔디 그리 카메라를 찍으시우?"

 

꽃도 없는 나무에 매달려 카메라를 들이대고 있는 아줌씨가 궁거웠을까?

아니믄 들르는 손님도 없는 작은 가게에서 말동무가 필요했을까?

슬그머니 다가온 할매가 반갑게 말을 붙인다.

 

나무를 관찰하고 있다고 하니

왜 혼자 왔느냐? 이 계곡이 참 좋은 곳인데 여름에 사람들이 많이 온다....

몇 마디 말을 받아주면서 열매도 없는 녀석의 잎과 잔가지를 담았다.

할매는 아무래도 심심했던 것 같다.

 

헌디...

옴마야~! 지난 해 6월에 담았던 사진에는 어린 가지에 털이 안 보여서 이 녀석을 민느릅나무로 믿고 있었는디....

줄기에 부드러운 털이 많기도 하다.

하기사 그 때는 어린 가지를 제대로 담아 오지 못해서 털의 유무를 확인하기에 부정확하긴 했을 거다.

 

 

어린 가지에 융모가 밀생하고 있는 모습이다.

그러면 이 녀석은 민느릅나무가 아닌 당느릅나무다.

 

 

 

지난 해 6월에 관찰했던 열매는 가운대 부분에 융모가 있었는데

(느릅나무의 열매에는 털이 없다)

열매 크기는 왕느릅나무보다는 훨씬 작고 느릅나무보다 더 컸는데 표면의 털이 확실하게 보인다.

<열매는 시과로 도란형 또는 타원형이고 길이 10-15mm이며 중앙부에 잔털이 있고 종자는 날개의 약간 윗부분에 붙어 있다.>

 

 

 

나는 느릅나무가 본종이고 당느릅나무가 변종이려니 했더니만

표준식물목록 정명을 살펴 보니 당느릅나무가(Ulmus davidiana Planch.) 본종이고 느릅나무가(Ulmus davidiana var. japonica (Rehder) Nakai  변종이었다.

 

 

잎 표면에 윤채가 있다.

잎은 도란형으로 길이 5-10cm, 너비 3-5cm 이며 가장자리에 예리한 복거치가 있으며 끝이 갑자기 좁아져 뾰족하진다

 

 

 

잎 뒷면 맥 위에는 부드러운 융모가 밀생하고 있다.

엽병도 길이 3-7mm로서 짧은 융모가 밀생한다.
