느릅나무(느릅나무과) 동아 Ulmus davidiana Planch. ex DC. var. japonica (Rehder) Nakai

끙~! 이 녀석을 비술나무로 알았다. 몇 년 전의 기억으로 이른 봄 꽃을 보고 알아내었던 이름이었다.

헌데 오늘 비술나무로 불러 주길 포기 해야 할 거 같다. 사실 비술나무는 느릅나무와 흡사하여 확실하게 단정하기 어렵다. 

 

1km 남짓 들어가는 골짜기 끝에 두어 그루 있는 줄 알았는데 찬찬히 살피니 등산로 옆에 많이도 보인다. 

참 나원~! 이렇게 많은 걸 모르고 골짝 끝까지 헐떡거리면서 드나들었다니. ㅎ

 

낮은 나뭇가지의 꽃눈을 담는데, 눈에 띄는 잔가지의 코르크 질. 헐~! 비술나무라 생각한 나무 가지에 코르크 질이라니.

대부분의 가지는 코르크질이 보이지 않는데 3~4년지 일부 가지에 코르크질 흔적이 보인다.

 

2주 전에 꽃봉오리를 담을 때 1년지와 잔 가지의 수형으로 봐서 느릅나무일 가능성도 배제하지 못할 거라 생각했었는데, 

느릅나무 유목에서 보이는 코르크질이 보인다는 건 결국 그 배재하지 못할 가능성을 인정 할 수 밖에 없다는 거다.

 

그러면 결국 이 녀석은 비술나무가 아니라 느릅나무일 가능성이 크다.

지금 쯤 필 줄 알고 일부러 찾았는데 2주 전보다는 꽤 부풀었지만 아직도 열흘은 더 있어야 필 것 같다.

꽃이 피면 확실하게 확인을 해야 하겠다. 느릅나무는 잔가지에 융모로 덮혀 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

비술나무는 가지가 아래로 늘어지는 특징이 있다고 하는데,

이 나무는 잔가지가 쳐지지 않고 일반적인 나뭇가지 처럼 위를 향하고 있는 것도 비술나무와는 다르다.  

 

 

 

  

1m도 안되는 (혹)느릅나무 유목이다. 사실 혹느릅나무는 따로 없고 느릅나무에 통합되었다.
