비술나무(느릅나무과) 열매 Ulmus pumila L.

동강에 연결되는 계곡 주변에는 비술나무가 많이 자생하고 있다.

10원짜리 동전만한 열매는 누렇게 익는데 열매가 무척 많이 달려서 익을 때 쯤 나무가 온통 누렇게 변한다.

성숙한 열매는 건드리기만 해도 우수수 떨어졌다.

 

잎은 호생하고 타원형, 긴 타원형 또는 피침형이며 첨두 또는 점첨두이고 길이 7(보통 3-5)cm로서 예저 또는 원저이며

가장자리에 단거치 또는 복거치가 있고 양면에 털이 없다. 엽병은 길이 2-8mm로서 처음에는 털이 있으나 점차 없어진다.

 

 

 

열매는 시과이고 털이 없으며 도란형이고 길이 12-13mm이며 나비가 길이보다 넓으며 끝이 오목하고, 종자는 중부 또는 중상부에 있으며 5월에 성숙하고 떨어지면 곧 싹이 돋는다

 

 

 

높이 15m, 지름 1m에 달하고 가지는 밑으로 늘어지는 성질이 있으며 수피는 회흑색으로 조각조각 갈라진다.

소지는 처음에는 털이 있으나 점차 없어지며 이년지는 회갈색이다
