집앞 도로변에 있는 걸 보면 일부러 심은 것인데
이 녀석이 울릉도에는 서식을 하는지는 모르겠지만 제주도와 남부 해안지역에 서식을 하는 건 본 적이 있다.
3~4월에 꽃이 피니 꽃을 만날 기회는 거의 없고 매번 열매만 펴다보고 온다.
잎은 호생하며 혁질이고 타원형, 긴 타원형 또는 긴 타원상 도란형이며 양면에 털이 없고
거치가 없거나 2-3개의 톱니가 있으나 맹아지에 붙는 잎에는 거치가 있다.
잎의 표면은 짙은 녹색이고 아랫면은 담황록색이며 엽병은 길이 8-15mm이다.
열매는 둥글며 지름 1-1.2cm로서 8-9월에 적색으로 익고 과경은 길이 5-8mm이다.
