낙상홍(감탕나무과 감탕나무속) Ilex serrata Thunb.

학교 자연관찰원에 야생초 몇 가지와 나무가 있다. 봄에 꽃이 피는 걸 보니 낙상홍이라는 걸 알았는데

두 그루가 잎 모양이 달랐고 꽃 모양도 다르길래 확인해 보니 수그루는 미국낙상홍이었다.

암그루는 우리 토종 낙상홍으로 열매가 다글다글 파랗게 달리더니 어느새 요렇게 빨갛게 익고 있었다.

피라칸사스와 함께 겨울에도 잎이 다 떨어진 맨 가지에 달려 있는 붉은 열매가 꽃처럼 고운 녀석이다.

 

느티나무 그늘에서 쉬던 기사님 한 분이 나무 이름을 묻길래 낙상홍과 미국낙상홍이라 했더니

평소에 우스게 소리 잘 하던 박기사님이 대뜸   "조 옆에 있는 건 일제여 일제. "

하면서 낙상홍 옆의 수양벚나무를 가리킨다. 다들 한바탕 배를 잡고 웃는다.
