백당나무(인동과)

 만항재는 온통 백당나무로 숲 언저리가 환하였다.

풀잎에 빗물이 맺혀서 한 발짝만 옮겨도 바짓가랑이가 축축했지만

다행하게도 비가 그치고 낮은 구름이 산 능선을 빠르게 넘어간다.

 

꽃은 줄기 끝에서 산방꽃차례로 무리져 피는데 꽃차례 한가운데에는 암술과 수술을 모두 갖춘 유성화가 있어서 결실을 한다. 

가장자리에는 지름 3㎝의 매우 큰 꽃부리로 이루어진 인테리어용 중성화(암술과 수술이 모두 없는 꽃)가 핀다. 

 

 

 

 

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

잎은 마주나고 넓은 달걀 모양이며 가장자리에 굵은 톱니가 있고 뒷면에 털이 있다.

잎몸이 3개로 갈라지거나 갈라지지 않기도 하는 등 다양한 변화가 있다. 잎가장자리에 톱니가 조금 있으며 잎자루의 길이는 약 2㎝이다.
