아왜나무(산분꽃나무과 산분꽃나무속) 동아 Viburnum odoratissimum Ker Gawl. ex Rümpler var. awabuki (K.Koch) Zabel ex Rümpler

남부지방에서 자라는 상록성 나무다. 이름이 참 재미있다.

가만히 있는데 옆에서 자꾸만 찝적거리면 아, 왜? 하고 짜증을 낸다. 아왜나무 이름이 그런데서 연유한 건 아닐테고. ㅎ

잎은 마주나고 간 타원형으로 가장자리에 톱니가 있거나 없거나 물결형 톱니가 있다.

잎 앞면에 광택이 있고 잎자루에 붉은 빛이 돈다. 가지 끝에 원추꽃차례의 흰색 꽃이 모여 핀다.  

열매는 붉게 익어서 완전히 익으면 검게 된다.

 

 

 어린가지에는 엽흔이 애벌레 주름을 만들고 있다.

 

 

 

 잎 뒷면에는 갈색 기운이 도는 별모양의 융모가 보인다.

 

열매는 다 떨어지고 주저리 흔적만 남아 있다

 

 

 수피에는 세로로 터진 피목이 보이나 대체로 평활하다.

수피를 담으면서 알아낸 사실인데 남부지방의 상록수 수종의 수피는 거의 이렇게 평활한 특징이 있었다.
