섬의 분꽃나무 잎이 더 둥글고 잎 끝이 무디며 더 두텁다.
섬 지역의 분꽃나무와 육지의 분꽃나무를 별도의 종으로 분류해 놓았는데,
문제는 국명에서 두 녀석을 헷갈리게 만들어 놓았다는 것이다.
상식적으로 <섬>이란 접두어는 울릉도나 도서지역의 종에 붙는 것인데
육지 내륙의 분꽃나무를 섬분꽃나무로, 정작 해안 도서 지역의 이 녀석을 분꽃나무로 붙여 놓았으니.....
나는 이 녀석을 섬분꽃나무로 부르고 싶다.
