가막살나무는 꽃쟁이들이 덜꿩나무와 구분하기 어려워 하는 녀석이다.
거기에 산가막살나무가 더 해지면 더욱하지만 구분 포인트만 잘 익혀두면 그리 낭패스러운 일은 아니다.
가막살나무는 잎 중간 즘 너비가 넓어서 마름모 꼴을 하고 잎 끝이 갑자기 좁아져서 꼬리가 짧다. 탁엽도 없다.
덜꿩나무는 잎이 갸름한 난형으로 잎이 길쭉한 편이고 꼬리가 길다. 거치도 부드럽다. 선형의 탁엽이 있다.
산가막살나무는 잎이 산가막살나무와 같지만 꼬리가 갈며 어린 가지와 잎, 잎자루에 털이 없다.
