싸리는 콩과다. 그런데 이 녀석 광대싸리는 소속이 다른 대극과다.
열매를 보면 대극과 종류 열매랑 비슷하긴 하다.
아무래도 가지 벋는 수형이 싸리나무 종류와 비슷하여서 광대싸리란 이름을 얻은 것 같다.
근데 <광대>란 이미지는 어디에도 안 보이는데 왜 광대란 접두사를 붙였을까?
암수딴그루로 암꽃은 2~5개 정도 엽액(잎겨드랑이)에서 피고,
수꽃은 황색이고 엽액에서 다수 속생하고 지름 3mm로서 길이 2-3mm의 화경이 있으며 꽃받침잎과 수술은 각 5개이다.
이 녀석은 수꽃이다.
잎은 호생하며 막질이고 타원형이며 둔두 원저이고 길이 2-6cm, 폭 12-25mm로서
양면에 털이 없으며 표면은 녹색이고 뒷면은 흰빛이 돈다.
엽병은 길이 3-7mm이며 탁엽은 길이 1mm정도로서 곧 떨어진다.
(전체 수형이 싸리나무류와 닮았지만 3출엽이 아니고 단엽이다.)
삭과는 편구형이며 9-10월에 황갈색으로 익으며 지름 4mm로서 3줄의 홈이 있고 3조각으로 갈라져서 6개의 종자가 나온다.
