뜰보리수(보리수나무과) Elaeagnus multiflora Thunb.

산림박물관 마당에 심겨져 있는 뜰보리수나무.

몇 년 전 이 곳에 왔다가 붉게 익어가는 열매를 직원 몰래 따 먹었던 적이 있다.

그 때 무슨 보리수 열매가 이렇게도 큰 게 있나 하고 의아해 했었는데 뜰보리수였던 것이다.

 

일본 원산으로 붉게 익는 열매가 커서 정원수로 인기가 있단다.  

꽃은 보리수와 별반 차이가 없는데 잎 끝이 뾰족하고 열매가 엄청 커서 몇 알을 입에 넣으면 먹음직하다.

 

 

꽃은 연한 황색으로서 1-2개가 단생하거나 액생하며 백색 인모와 갈색 인모가 있고 화경은 가늘고 길이 4-8mm이다.

꽃받침통은 기부가 급히 좁아져서 자방을 둘러싸며 열편과 길이가 비슷하고 열편과 수술이 각 4개이며 암술은 1개이고 4-5월에 개화한다.

 

 

 

 

잎은 호생하며 긴 타원형이고 짧은 첨두 또는 둔두이며 예저이고 길이 3-10cm, 너비 2-5cm로서 톱니가 없으며

표면은 어릴 때 인모가 있으나 점차 없어지고 뒷면은 은백색 인모와 갈색 인모가 섞여 있다
