풀도 나뭇잎도 모두 겨울로 들어 가버리니

산도 들도 삭막하지만 하다.

 

푸른 잎을 보려면 남쪽으로 내려갈 밖에,

갑작스레 출발한 남도 여행, 여기 저기서 자잘한 꽃을 피우고 있는 보리장나무가 나타난다

 

바닷가 산기슭에서 자라는 상록 활엽 덩굴성 작은큰키나무이다. 

어린가지, 잎 뒷면, 잎자루, 꽃자루에 갈색 비늘털이 빽빽하게 붙어 있다. 

꽃은 10~12월에 피는데 잎겨드랑이에서 여러 개가 모여 달리며, 은백색이고 아래로 처진다. 

 

꽃받침통은 가늘고 4갈래로 갈라지고 은백색 표면에 적갈색 비늘털이 있다

꽃자루에도 갈색 비늘털이 있다.

 

잎은 두꺼운 혁질로  타원형 내지 좁은 타원형이며 끝은 뾰족하고, 잎자루는 길이 5~7mm, 적갈색 비늘털이 있다. 

가장자리가 반곡하며 표면은 갈색 인편모가 성기게 분포하나 곧 떨어지며, 뒷면은 적갈색 인편모가 밀생한다.
