소태나무(소태나무과 소태나무속) Picrasma quassioides (D.Don) Benn.

아직 내 공부가 참으로 부족한 걸 느낀다.

이 녀석을 따악 보는 순간 소태나무라 생각하고 화서와 열매를 살피는데...

 

어라? 열매가 한 알이다??

소태나무는 배주가 4개로 한개의 꽃에 4개의 자방이 결실을 하는데?

 

일단 잎을 씹어 보니 한 참 후에 전해지는 쓴맛의 강도가 약하다

그렇다면 소태나무로 볼 수 없는데...??

그 날은 생각을 못했다.

전에 맛을 보았던 건 잎이 아니고 껍질을 씹었다가 종일 쓴맛에서 벗어나지 못하였다는 것을 말이다.

 

여기서부터 이 녀석에 대하여 혼란이 와 버린 거였다.

열매가 보이지 않고 꽃이 다 떨어진 걸 보면 수그루가 분명한데도 한 개의 열매라고 봤던 것이 아마 열매가 아니었던 걸 착각했었던 것 같다

 

해서 노란 꽃이 피어 있는 다른 수그루를 보고서도 소태나무라 생각하지 않게 되어 버렸다. 에혀~~!!!
