황벽나무(운향과 황벽나무속) 열매 Phellodendron amurense Rupr.

한라수목원과 한라생태숲은 제주도의 식물들을 한 자리에서 볼 수 있어서 좋다.

한라수목원은 오래 전에 만들어져서 아열대 수종과 다양한 남부지역 식생 자료가 풍성하다

 

한라생태숲은 조성된지 몇 해 되지 않지만 자연 상태의 넓은 면적을 이용하면서 수목을 중심으로 잘 만들어져 있어서

시간적으로 여유를 가지고 둘러 보는 게 좋을 듯하다. 한라생태숲에서 황벽나무 열매를 만났던 게 창고에 잠 자고 있었다

황벽나무는 전국적으로 표고 1,300m 이하에서 자생한다.

 

 

원추화서는 잔털이 있으며 지름 5-7cm이고 꽃은 이가화로서 5-6월에 가지 끝에 모여 황록색으로 피며

길이 6mm로서 소화경이 짧고 화피는 5-8개이다.

 

꽃받침 열편은 짧으며 꽃잎은 길이 4mm로서 수술대 밑부분과 더불어 내면에 털이 있고 자방은 5실이다.

핵과는 둥글고 7-10월에 흑색으로 익으며 겨울 동안 나무에 그대로 달려 있고 5개의 종자가 들어 있다.

 

 

잎은 대생하며 기수1회우상복엽이고, 소엽은 5-13개이며 피침상 난형 또는 난형이고

잎끝이 꼬리처럼 뾰족하고 원저 또는 예저이며 길이 5-10㎝, 넓이 3-5㎝로서 표면은 윤채가 있고 진녹색이며,

뒷면은 백색이고 엽맥 기부에 털이 약간 있다.

 

 

가지는 굵고 사방으로 퍼지며, 수피는 연한 회색으로 코르크질이 잘 발달하여 깊게 갈라지고 내피는 황색이다.

내피를 건위제로 이용하고 황벽이란 이름은 황색 내피에서 온 것이다.
