내 사는 주변에서는 볼 수 없던 길마가지나무가 수목원에 식재되어 있다.
4월 말 경 제주에서 우연히 꽃과 열매를 담은 적이 있어서 다행히 자료를 가지게 되었는데
길마가지나무와 비슷한 숫명다래나무가 있어서 어린가지와 잎의 털을 확인해 봐야 한다.
꽃은 4월에 잎과 같이 피고 새가지와 같이 액아에서 나와 밑을 향해 2개씩 달리며 화경은 길이 3-12mm이고
포는 2개로서 길이 4-12(보통 4-6)mm이다.
꽃받침은 5개로 얕게 갈라지며 화관은 양순형으로 백색이고 양순이 거의 비슷하고 통부 밑부분이 팽창되어 있으며 열편은 긴 피침형이고 겉에 털이 없다.
4월에 담은 길마가지나무 꽃이다.
높이가 3m에 달하고 가지의 골속은 충실하며 백색이고 수피는 회갈색이며 어린 가지에 굳센 털이 있다. 동아는 난형이며 털이 없다
잎은 대생하고 타원형, 난상 타원형 또는 넓은 피침형이며 첨두 또는 둔두이고 예저이며 길이 3-7cm, 폭 2-4cm로서
톱니가 없고 양면 맥 위와 가장자리에 억센 털이 있다. 엽병은 길이 3-5mm이다.
