괴불나무들이 꽃을 피우기 시작한다. 청괴불나무도 자그마하게 꽃을 피웠다.
▶괴불나무(L. maackii Maxim.): 화경이 엽병보다 짧은 것.
▶산괴불(var. crassipes Nakai): 화경의 길이가 1.5-3.0㎝이고 굵은 것.
▶털산괴불(for. villosa Hort.): 잎 표면에 잔털이 있고 뒷면 맥 위에는 융모가 있는 것.
▶넓은잎산괴불(var. latifolia Korsh.): 잎이 넓은 타원형 또는 난상타원형이고 원저인 것
꽃색이 자주색인 괴불 중에서
▶홍괴불(Lonicera sachalinensis (F.Schmidt) Nakai) 뒷면 주맥을 중심으로 백색털이 밀생
▶흰등괴불(L. okamotoana Ohwi): 잎 뒷면이 백색이고 중륵 양쪽에만 백색 밀모가 있는 것.
▶산홍괴불(var. barbinervis Nakai): 잎 뒷면 맥 위에 백색털이 있는 것.
▶좁은잎홍괴불(var. stenophylla Nakai): 잎이 피침형 또는 긴 타원형이고 끝이 길게 뾰족해지는 것.

6월의 열매다. 2개가 한 몸으로 붙어 있다.
7월의 열매다. 익으면 거의 하나 처럼 보인다.
청괴불나무는 어린가지 기부에 잎눈을 싸고 있던 비늘 조각인 아린이 남아 있는 특징이 있다.
잎자루와 잎 양면에 털이 없다.
엽병은 길이 2-5mm 이다.
