길마가지나무란 이름을 달고 있는 녀석인데
어린 가지와 꽃자루, 꽃받침, 잎에 거센털이 보이지 않아서 숫명다래나무라고 생각하고 있다.
| 한국산 인동속의 분류학적 연구
- 형태와 화분의 특성 및 DNA 다형성 양상을 중심으로 -
(전승훈 박사논문 - 서울대, 1994) 위 전승훈 박사의 논문에 의하여 정리를 하면 아래와 같다.
1. 길마가지나무와 숫명다래나무의 꽃, 열매, 화분의 특성에는 차이가 없다.
2. 소지에 강모가 하향하며 밀생하지는 않으나 숫명다래나무는 갈마가지나무에 비해 털이 매우 적다.
3. 잎의 질감은 두꺼운 혁질로 엽형은 타원형으로 강모가 있으나 밀생하지는 않고 엽두는 첨두이다.
- 잎의 강모는 엽병과 상면 주맥, 하면 전체에 다소 많고 엽연 전체에 산생한다 -------- 길마가지나무
- 잎의 강모는 엽병에는 거의 없고, 상면과 하면은 맥을 중심으로 분포하며 엽연에는

4. 포는 약 0.8cm이하로 엽상을 이루지 않고 선형 또는 피침형
- 포의 가장자리에 강모가 있다 ----------------- 길마가지나무
- 포에 털이 없다 ----------------------------- 숫명다래나무
5. DNA 다형성 분석에서 길마가지나무와 숫명다래나무는 상이점이 나타난다.

학자들에 따라 숫명다래나무를 길마가지와 통합하는 견해도 있다.
