혹시나 꽃이 피었을까 하여 둘째 날 일정 중에 잠시 틈을 내어서 계곡을 찾았는데 아직도 개화는 하지 않아 보인다
제주의 습한 계곡부 숲에 자라는 이 녀석은 아마 남부 해안 지역에도 자라지 않을까 싶다.
1월의 모습보다 달라지긴했지만 설마 이게 개화상태라곤 생각하지 않았더니
4월에 열매가 맺은 모습을 담고서야 이 상태가 개화한 것이란 걸 알았다.
꽃은 이가화로서 황록색이며 암꽃은 엽액에 모여 달리고 수꽃은 줄기 윗부분에서 나오는 길이 2-3cm의 웅화서에 달린다.
잎은 원줄기 윗부분에서 호생하고 엽병이 없으며 길이 4-8cm로서 한쪽으로 찌그러진 피침형 또는 긴 타원형이고 상반부에 몇개의 톱니가 있으며 첨두 예저로서 표면이 껄껄하고 뒷면에 짧은 털이 있으며 흰빛을 띤다.
꽤 크게 자란 녀석의 줄기이다.
밑부분은 목질이지만 윗부분은 연하여 다육성 줄기처럼 잘 부러지고 잘 자란 녀석은 40cm 정도로 크며
전체가 검은 청록색이고 껄껄한 감이 돌며 줄기에 복모 또는 입모가 있다.
