당단풍나무(단풍나무과) Acer pseudosieboldianum (Pax) Kom.

이 녀석은 장상의 잎 갈래가 9~11개로, 당단풍나무는 우리 나라 산지에 가장 많이 분포하고 있는 단풍나무 종이 아닌가 싶다.

 5~7개인 단풍나무는 그렇게 흔하게 보이지 않는 것 같다.

어떤 분은 당단풍나무는 중국 원산으로 우리 나라에 자생하지 않는다고 하여서 그냥 웃고 말았는데 한라산에도 당단풍나무는 지천이었다.

 

한 가지 이상한 점은 당단풍이나 단풍이나 화서가 아래로 주렁주렁 하는데

이렇게 열매가 성숙할 때 단풍나무 시과 열매는 아래로 늘어지는데, 당단풍나무 열매는 잎 위로 곧추 선다는 거다.

 

단풍나무류 중에서 열매가 잎 위로 올라오는 시닥나무와 부게꽃나무가 있긴 하나

그 두 녀석은 화서 때부터 위로 서 있으니 열매도 위로 서는 건 당연한 것인데....

당단풍나무는 뭐에 뿔이 나서 이리 곧추 서 있을까?

 

 

당단풍나무는 꽃이 필 무렵에 잎 앞 뒷면, 잎자루에 털이 많은데 열매가 익을 무렵이라서 그런지 털이 별로 안 보인다
