비슷한 미국낙상홍이 있는데 두 가지 비교해 봅니다.

꽃 : 둘다 암수딴그루, 꽃의 색깔은 낙상홍이 엷은 자주색(흰색에 가깝기도) 미국낙상홍은 흰색
꽃잎 : 낙상홍은 4-5개. 미국낙상홍은 5-8개
잎 : 낙상홍은 난형에 가깝고 미국낙상홍은 낙상홍에 비해 잎이 더 크고 장타원형에 가까움.
엽연은 낙상홍은 소예거치 내지 침상거치라 할 수 있고 미국낙상홍은 파상에 가까움
열매 : 미국낙상홍의 열매가 더 크다(1.5배 정도)
