구실잣밤나무(참나무과 모밀잣밤나무속) 열매 Castanopsis sieboldii (Makino) Hatus. ex T. Yamaz. & Mashiba

구실잣밤나무 열매가 곧 익어서 깍지가 벌어질 것 같다.

 

구실잣밤나무와 흡사한 모밀잣밤나무는 열매가 더 작고 구형에 가까운데 욕지도에 있다고 알려져 있어서

2017년 겨울에 확인하러 가 봤지만 모밀잣밤나무가 구실잣밤나무의 오동정이었을 거란 확신만 가지고 돌아 왔다.

 

그 후 2023년 내 생각과 같은 연구결과가 한국식물분류학회지에 발표되었다.

200년간의 오해: Castanopsis cuspidata (모밀잣밤나무)는 한반도에 자생하지 않는다

지난 약 200년간 Castan-opsis cuspidata가 한반도에 분포한다는 점은 의심의 여지가 없었습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 우리의 실증적 관찰은 이 지역에 존재하는 것에 의문을 제기하게 합니다. C. cuspidata가 한반도에 서식하는지 명확히 하기 위해, 우리는 표본관, 분포 관련 문헌, 그리고 식지도섬의 공식 기록된 자연기념물 숲 C. cuspidata 숲을 조사했습니다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 우리는 특히 C. cuspidata와 C. sieboldii 사이의 내과절 화축과 컵 결기의 형태학적 차이를 강조하는 분류학적 키를 제공합니다. 우리는 C. cuspidata가 한반도에 분포하지 않을 가능성이 더 높다고 결론지었습니다. 더욱이 욕지도 섬의 공식 기록된 자연기념물 C. cuspidata 숲의 모든 나무가 C. sieboldii임이 밝혀졌습니다. 이 오해는 C. sieboldii에 대한 일련의 오인 사건들로 인해 시간이 지남에 따라 점차 굳어졌을 수 있다. 이 연구는 1886년 Wenzig가 Geomun 섬에서 Quercus cuspidata(= C. cuspidata)에 대해 수집한 Quercus cuspidata(= C. cuspidata)의 표본 수집(1859년)을 기록한 것으로, C. cuspidata와 C. sieboldii의 구분이 아직 확립되지 않은 역사적 맥락에서 시작되었다. 또한, 우리 연구는 생물의 오인이 의학과 약리학을 넘어 인간 문화에 이르기까지 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다.
