구실잣밤나무 열매 : 1.5-2cm
모밀잣밤나무 열매 : 1.2cm
현재 우리나라에 남부 지역에 자생하는 대부분은 구실잣밤나무이며
모밀잣밤나무는 제주도, 전남, 경남지역 일부에 드물게 자생하는 것으로 알려져 있다.
모밀잣밤나무는 열매의 크기가 구실에 비하여 작다는 것 이외에는 다른 점을 찾을 수 없다고 한다.
이번에 천연기념물 제343호로 지정되어 있는 욕지도 모밀잣밤나무 숲에서 열매를 주워 크기를 확인했는데..
아래 비교 자료는 1,2번 째 줄은 모두 가로 길이 8cm, 세째 줄은 7cm 의 모눈 종이에 담은 사진이다.
헌데......거참~!!! 왼쪽의 모밀잣밤나무 열매가 과연 작다고 할 수 있을까?
