도동의 해안 산책로 아래쪽으로 가끔씩 섬괴불나무가 나타난다.
여름 중간 시기이니 꽃도 열매도 다 사라져 버렸다.
꽃이 피는 시기에 울릉도에 와 보고싶지만 포항에서 출발하는 배편은 항상 표를 구하지 못한다
이 녀석은 육지의 여타 괴불나무속 보다 잎이 매우 크고 넓으며 잎과 어린 가지에 긴 융모가 밀생하고 있다.
이미 열매는 이렇게 말라버리거나 다 떨어져 버리고 선모가 있는 열매자루만 길게 보인다.
지난해 6월에 담았던 열매다.
괴불나무속 녀석들은 하나의 꽃대 끝에 2개씩 꽃을 피우는데 각각의 자방이 성장하면서 하나로 합체되는 경우도 있고
반 쯤 합체되는 녀석도 있고 괴불나무, 괴불나무,섬괴불나무처럼 완전하게 따로 결실하는 경우도 있다.
잎 뒷면과 어린가지에는 융모가 이렇게 덮고 있다.
