태백에서 만항재로 오르는 남사면 고개길 주변에는 개벚지나무가 많다.
2주 전에는 꽃봉오리도 겨우 보이는가 싶었는데 그 사이 꽃이 거의 다 져버려서 동글동글한 화서의 모양이 제대로 잡히질 않는다.
꽃밥이 노랗고 꽃술이 유난히 길어서 화서만 봐도 개벚지나무인지 쉽게 알 수 가 있다.
수피는 벚나무처럼 가로로 갈라져서 벗겨지기도 하는데 수피의 색이 많이 붉은 편이다.
