제주도이 들어오는 날부터 강한 바람과 비가 흩뿌리는 날씨가 계속 되어서 탐방에 무척 방해가 되었다.
올벚나무를 보고 싶었지만 바람이 심하여 다니기도 만만치가 않고 생태숲에서 보이긴 했지만 너무 높아서 쳐다 보기만 했다.
토요일 연구위원들은 모두 육지로 귀가들 하고 일요일은 혼자 동쪽으로 차를 몰았다.
남조로를 지나다가 휴양림에 잠시 차를 멈추고 어정거리는데 멀리서 올벚나무의 느낌이 드는 벚나무가 있길래 반갑게 다가가니
높은 가지에 볼록한 항아리모양의 꽃받침통의 꽃이 보인다. 꽃도 작고 잎이 돋아서 멀리서 봐도 약간 녹색 기운이 많다.

이 곳에는 숲사이에 온통 올벚나무들이 많이 보인다.
꽃가지가 낮은 녀석을 찾아서 현무암 담장 위에 올라서서 한참을 살폈다.
꽃차례 자루가 거의 없고 작은 꽃자루와 꽃받침통에 털이 밀생한다
파스텔톤의 붉으레한 색이 부드럽고 꽃받침통이 동그랗다
암술대 기부에 털이 있다.
다른 벚나무에 비하여 꽃이 필 때 잎이 제법 자라 있다.
