늦은 시각 오랜만에 풍산에 있는 집에 들렀다.
주인의 발자국 흔적이 사라진 마당에는 독일붓꽃과 붓꽃, 매발톱이 꽃을 피워서 장식을 하고 있었는데
"아니 이 녀석이 왜 여기에?"
서쪽 구석에 멀거니 지켜보고 있는 녀석에 눈길을 주다가 깜짝 놀랐다.
작년 봄 이 녀석을 보고자 서울 한강변을 헤메다가 엉뚱한 개망초만 들여다 보고 온 적이 있는데
이 녀석이 나를 애처롭게 여겼던가? 우리 집 마당에 떡하니 서 있는 게 아닌가?
도데체 델꼬 온 기억이 없는데 어떻게 따라 왔단 말인가?
참 기가 막힐 노릇이라. 어쨌든 그리도 보고싶어 하던 녀석이 마당에 서 있으니 어찌 반갑지 않겠는가?
보통사람들 눈에는 씨잘데기 없는 귀화식물 잡초이지만 내겐 소중한 손님이니
잘 자라서 씨앗을 많이 많이 퍼뜨리거라.
망초보다 가느다란 설상화가 더 빽빽하니 나 있고 주걱형의 잎 기부가 귀처럼 줄기를 감싸며 줄기 가운데가 비어 있다.
