한번 찾으니 여기 저기 몇 그루의 왕괴불나무가 보인다.
아직 꽃을 피우지 못하는 어린나무도 있고 잎을 말아서 곤충의 애벌레가 집을 지은 녀석도 보인다
아래 녀석은 한창 꽃을 피우고 있었는데 온통 벌레집으로 잎이 다 말려 있었다.
아마 나중에 벌레가 잎을 다 갉아 먹어 버리면 열매가 제대로 결실이 될라나 걱정이 된다
이 녀석은 국내 분포가 한정적으로 강원도 계방산과 오대산, 전북의 덕유산에 서식한다고 알려져 있다.
헌데 이 곳은 경북의 백두대간 고개 마루이고 태기산에서도 왕괴불나무를 본 적이 있다.
그렇다면 이 녀석의 분포 상황을 다시 조사해 볼 필요가 있을 것 같다.
엽병, 화경, 어린 가지에 털이 안 보인다
잎 가장자리와 잎 뒷면 맥 위에 고운 털이 있다.
잎 표면에도 털이 확인이 된다
수피는 오래되면 세로로 얇게 갈라져 벗겨진다
