보라색 개쑥부쟁이가 막막한 가슴으로 가을 늦은 산자락을 지키고 있다.
사람은은 가을 들판을 행복하게 만들어 주는 이 녀석을 들국화로 부르기도 한다.
내 어릴 적에도 이 녀석을 들국화라 하면 꺾어서 사이다 병에 꽂아 두곤 했었다.
무서리가 내릴 때까지도 맑은 모습으로 가을 자락 부여잡고 놓아 주지 않는 녀석이라 더 마음이 간다.

포는 3줄로 배열되며 선상 피침형으로서 끝이 뾰족하고 화관은 길이 21-24mm, 나비 2.5-4mm이며 담자색이다. |
총포는 반구형이고 길이 8-10mm, 나비 16-20mm이며 포편은 2줄로 배열되고 끝이 뾰족하며 뒷면에 털이 다소 있다. 설상화관은 2줄로 달리고 길이 2cm, 나비 3mm정도이다. |
개쑥부쟁이의 총포편은 갯쑥부쟁이, 단양쑥부쟁이처럼 선상 피침형이다.
경생엽은 좁고 긴 타원형이며 끝이 둔하며 길이 6-8cm, 나비 1~2cm로서 밑으로 갈수록 점차 좁아져서 엽병처럼 되고
양면이 모두 거칠며 윗가장자리에 톱니가 있거나 밋밋하다.
기부의 잎은 난형 또는 난상 타원형이고 둔두 예저이며 길이 5-6cm, 나비 2.5-3.5cm로서
가장자리에 큰 톱니와 더불어 털이 있으며 엽병이 길다.
