경북 북부지방에서는 길마가지를 구경할 수가 없다.
남방바람꽃을 보려고 오름 근처에 차를 주차하는데 옆에 길마가지나무가 있다고 일러준다.
내게 일러주는 게 아니라 다른 일행 한 분한테 말이다.
그런데 내가 더 호들갑을 떠니까 나는 당연히 길마가지를 본 적이 있는 줄 알았단다.
제주에 내려 오면서 길마가지 꽃도 담을 수 있으면 좋겠다는 기대는 했었지만
시기가 너무 늦어서 만나기 어렵겠다 싶어 보고싶은 목록에서 이야기하지 않았더니 그래서 내게 일러주지 않았던 거다.
고맙게도 이 녀석은 가지 끝에 늦둥이 꽃 몇송이를 달고 육지 손님을 기쁘게 해 주었다.
어린 열매와 꽃을 함께 담는 행운까지 얻었다. 야호다~!
헌데 길마가지나무랑 숫명다래나무랑 너무 흡사하여 야생화 사이트마다 이름을 잘못 붙이는 경우가 보인다.
이 녀석도 묵은 가지에 센 털이 별로 안 보여서 고개 갸웃거렸더니 햇순에는 거센털이 대단하고
잎가장자리의 강모도 많이 보이는 걸로 봐서는 길마가지가 분명하다.
길마가지나무 : 가지의 골속은 충실하며 백색이고 수피는 회갈색이며 어린 가지에 굳센 털이 있다.
동아는 난형이며 털이 없다. 잎은 대생하고 타원형, 난상 타원형 또는 넓은 피침형이며 톱니가 없고 양면 맥 위와 가장자리에 억센 털이 있다. 엽병은 길이 3-5mm이다. 화경은 길이 3-12mm이고 포는 2개로서 길이 4-12(보통 4-6)mm이다. 꽃받침은 5개로 얕게 갈라지며 수술은 5개로서 길이 4-6mm이며 꽃밥은 황색으로서 길이 3mm이고 암술대는 길이 11mm이다.
숫명다래나무 : 가지는 골속이 차 있으며 백색이고 어린 가지는 붉은색이 돌며 털이 없다. 잎은 대생하고 타원형 또는 난상 타원형이며 표면에 털이 없고 뒷면 중륵에 털과 연모가 있으며 가장자리가 밋밋하고
엽병은 길이 2-4mm로서 잔털이 있다. 열매는 9~10월에 녹색으로 익는다.
화경은 길이 8-13mm로서 털이 없고 포는 피침형 또는 넓은 피침형이며 길이 6-8mm로서 연모가 있다.
전년도 가지에는 털이 안 보이는데 새순과 화경에 거센털이 확실하게 나타나고, 피침형의 포에도 털이 많이 보인다.
화경에도 털이 보인다.
열매는 장과로 2개가 절반 이상 합쳐지며 길이 3mm의 대가 있고
길이 10mm, 지름 12-15mm로서 5월에 적색으로 성숙하며 맛이 약간 달다
