호자나무(꼭두선이과) 열매 Damnacanthus indicus C.F.Gaertn.

오전 중 수목원을 헤메다녔다.

온실에 먼저 들러서 빌레나무 꽃을 담고는 제주 특산식물이 있는 곳에서 몇 가지 양치식물과 호자나무 열매를 담았다.

붉게 익은 열매는 귀여운데 잎 길이와 같은 긴 날카로운 가시는 가까이 다가오면 금방이라도 찔러버릴 태세이다.

 

 

2월 쯤 열매가 붉게 익기 시작하여 꽃이 필 때 까지 함께 달려 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

잎은 둥글고 가시가 잎의 길이와 거의 같은 길이(5~20mm)이다. 어린 가지에는 밀모가 있다.

꽃과 열매가 똑 같아서 헷갈리는 같은 과의 수정목이 있는데 수정목은 잎이 더 크고 가시는 3~4mm 정도로 잎에 비하여 매우 짧다.

 

 

6월 경에 필 꽃이 벌써 봉오리를 맺고 있다.
