호자나무(꼭두선이과) Damnacanthus indicus C.F.Gaertn.

와우~! 호자나무다. 이 녀석 꽃을 보려고 찾아가는 곳마다 두리번 거렸었는데

우째 인연이 없는지 꽃이 다 진 지금에서야 이렇게 나무라도 보게 되었다.

호자덩굴과 꽃과 잎 모양이 비슷하여 같은 이름을 가진 목본이다.  

열매는 핵과로 둥글고 지름 5mm이며 9월에 적색으로 성숙하며 겨울까지 남아 있다고 하니 열매가 익는 모습은 볼 수 있겠지.

 

 

잎은 대생하며 난형, 넓은 난형 또는 긴 난형이고 예두이며 원저 또는 심장저이고 길이 1-2.5cm, 나비 0.7-2cm로서

 표면은 짙은 녹색이며 광택이 있고 뒷면은 연한 녹색이다. 잎 가장자리에 톱니가 없고 엽병도 짧거나 없다.

 

나무 전체에 잎이 나는 곳에는 곧은 가시가 마주나는데, 가시는 길이 5-20㎜로 잎과 거의 같은 길이이다. 아니 잎보다 더 길었다.

이 녀석과 비슷한 수정목은 가시의 길이가 짧다.

 

 

꽃은 6월에 피고 길이 15mm로서 백색이며 엽액에 1-2개씩 달리고 화경이 짧으며 꽃받침은 길이 1.5mm이고 열편이 뾰족하다.

화관은 통형으로 지름 15mm이고 끝이 4개로 갈라지며 통부 안쪽에 털이 있고 열편은 통부 길이의 1/6-1/5이다.

수술은 4개, 암술은 1개이며 암술머리가 4개로 갈라진다.

 

높이가 1m에 달하고 가지에 길이 0.5-2cm의 긴 가시가 있고, 소지에 털이 있다.
