종자가 염주처럼 1배열 한다. 같은 해안에 서식하는 비슷한 갯괴불주머니는 종자가 2배열하여 방추형으로 더 넓다.
갯괴불주머니를 만나려했지만 우째 기회가 닿지 않는다 내년으로 또 미룬다.
꽃은 4-5월에 피며 길이 15~20mm로서 황색이고 한쪽이 순형으로 벌어지며 다른 한쪽은 거로 되고 총상화서는 길이 5-10cm이며 끝에 달린다. 포는 피침형으로서 소화경과 길이가 거의 비슷하고 수술은 6개이며 2개로 갈라진다
열매는 삭과로서 넓은 선형이며 길이 25-35mm, 지름3-4mm이고 염주처럼 잘록 잘록하며 종자는 흑색이고 1줄로 배열되며 돌기가 밀생한다
잎은 호생하고 넓은 난상 삼각형이며 길이와 나비가 각 10-25cm로서 대개 엽병이 있고 2-3회 3출우상엽이며
열편은 난상 쐐기형이고 결각이 있다.
