조록나무(조록나무과 조록나무속) Distylium racemosum Siebold & Zucc.

채진목 꽃에 눈길을 주다가 옆을 돌아보니 조록나무가 꽃잎도 없는 꽃을 빨갛게 달고 있다.

아직 꽃밥티 터지지 않았고 꽃차례 끝의 암꽃 꽃술도 마악 드러나고 있는 상태이다.

 

전라남도 완도 등 도서 지역, 제주도 등에서 자라며,

잎이 감탕나무처럼 가장자리가 밋밋하고 두꺼운 혁질이다.

잎과 동아에 조롱박 처럼 생긴 충령이 많이 달려서 조록나무라 불렀다. 

총상꽃차례로 꽃잎이 없으며 수꽃양성화한그루이다
열매가 달리는 양성화 꽃은 꽃차례 끝부분에 있다.
